Why is specialist IT CLEANING a major growth sector?
Key Facts
- One of the most valuable assets of any business is its IT infrastructure. The annual capital expenditure by businesses big and small on new computer equipment continues to grow as networks expand and become increasingly more complex. Computer failure of any kind can result in disastrous consequences, which could have an immediate impact on customers’ ability to deliver products and services, and ultimately their profitability.
- Recent independent analysis of a typical office computer revealed high levels of food debris, coffee and tea from spillages, hair and dead skin. All these provide an ideal medium for the growth of potentially dangerous super bugs such as E- coli, C difficile and MRSA.
- Research on cross-contamination indicated that:
An average computer keyboard has 3,295 germs per square inch
An average computer mouse has over 1,676 germs per square inch
An average telephone has 20,961 germs per square inch
It concluded that the only way to control this was through regular professional cleaning of all office IT equipment.
- Staff welfare and employee relations have become increasingly important considerations for employers. The Health and Safety Act 1974 compels employers to ensure that IT user’s workspaces comply with clear guidelines.
- MRSA, C difficle and other work place super bugs regularly feature heavily in the press. The importance of proper infection control prevention in all working environments is essential, particularly with the threat of C. difficile and other airbourne organisms. This resulted in the publication of key guidelines by the Healthcare Commission and the Hospital Infection Society which could become law in the future.
- Research has indicated that staff centered employee welfare schemes not only improve employee retention, but also creates a more positive work place environment.
